How Does Generator Installation Work?
Having a general understanding of how a generator works is one of the first steps in the process of having a standby generator professionally installed on your home
For most, after learning just how a generator will seamlessly provide backup power there are many questions about installation. We have made it our goal at GE to help you understand the steps to get a home generator system installed and ready to go for the next power outage.
Working with your GE Dealer
Installing a generator requires a licensed contractor. Your local certified GE Generator Dealer is here to help you through each step of the installation process.
Your dealer will start the process with an in-home consultation that will determine the standby generator size based on your power needs and the installation needs of your home.
To start the installation process, your GE Dealer will be securing permits and coordinating any other contractors (electricians or pipefitters) that might be needed to install the generator.
The basic* installation steps are:
- The generator is placed in the chosen location
- The Symphony® II power management system is installed
- The generator and the power management system are connected
- The fuel line and the generator are connected
*Installation steps may vary depending on the needs of the home or local codes. Consult with your dealer to determine the steps your installation will have.
